But in all seriousness, how could this possibly work?  Well, it turns out Cheat Your Way Thin actually has an interesting strategy.  The first part of this book helps explain why limiting your calories or diets that cut out carbs, sugars, fats, etc just don’t work.  The body has a propensity to store fat, and even if you’re dieting, this is still the case.  When you cut down the fat in your diet, your body goes into survival mode and stores whatever fat it can.  This helps explain why some people see gains in weight when they cut their calories.

Leptin, a protein hormone is one of the key elements of Cheat Your Way Thin.  Leptin is the hormone responsible for telling your body when it’s full, and when you diet, the amount of leptin in your system diminishes (which is why people who diet always feel hungry).  In a nutshell, Cheat Your Way Thin works by putting your body on a cyclical diet in which you’ll have a low carb day, a low glycemic day, followed by a high glycemic day.  This tricks your body into producing high amounts of leptin, and also allows you to have a “cheat” day, in which you can eat your favorite foods without having your body store the fat from it.
